Let’s Start With Bread and Water | Small Business Web Engagement | Scoop.it
At many restaurants, what once was free now must be requested. This must change.
craig daniels's insight:

A current trend that showcases how many businesses view their customers as numbers on a spread sheet and not with respect.

In case you've forgotten, the customer is the life blood of your business and not the reviews or other sideshows that make you think you are successful.

To paraphrase a well worn quote, "it's the customer, stupid."

Good Ideas Aren't Good Enough

Good Ideas Aren't Good Enough | Small Business Web Engagement | Scoop.it

"A Japanese app on Apple's App Store called "Don't Step the White Tile" was recently copied by another developer with an app called "Don't Tap the White Tile." Both are free, and are basically the same, yet the knock-off is doing better than the original."

craig daniels's insight:

Bottom line..."pick one thing and be great at it." At first this surely sounds like nothing but throw-off advice, merely an opening line at some hight priced seminar.

If you think about it for a while you'll find it is really quite profound. Most of us try to be good at many things and end up missing being great at anything.

When it comes to engaging with your customers the one thing most small businesses are not great at is storytelling and in fact most are not even good at it.

Create content that is great by using storytelling and you automatically best 90% of your competition.

Create A Vocabulary That Inspires Employee Engagement

Create A Vocabulary That Inspires Employee Engagement | Small Business Web Engagement | Scoop.it
It's official. Employee engagement is the new black. I’ve been writing and thinking a lot about it lately, as have others. The very notion of how leaders and employees engage has slowly morphed away from ‘companies have to do this because employees want it’ to ‘companies have to do this [...]
craig daniels's insight:

The old saying goes, "what's old is new again." In addition to the recently rediscovered practice of putting the customer first  we can add saying "thank you" to our employees.

I'm not sure if it's something that the government put in the water but there is an ongoing renaissance of common sense happening in business or at least in some businesses.

I was of the opinion that treating both customers and employees with respect was baked into business DNA, apparently I was wrong. Well welcome back common sense, you've been missed.

Creative Footer Examples for Inspiration | Small Business Web Engagement | Scoop.it

"Generally, when you talk about a website development, the most important areas we talk about are design, landing pages, headers, content and so on but we almost forget or talk too little about footers."

craig daniels's insight:

Website footers definitely are a neglected part when it comes to marketing your business, but when you think about it that's a huge mistake.

Footers offer a prime piece of website real estate to grab someone's attention using creative and useful messages along with helpful links to information.

People will scroll to the bottom of your website, don't leave them with just a copyright stamp...

These days, it appears almost anyone can declare him or herself an expert at social media content. But falling for the self-promoting hype can be costly to your campaign."

"The best practitioners understand their limitations and are continually learning, exploring, and experimenting as the social media and technology landscape constantly evolves around them."

craig daniels's insight:

Being adept at Social Media is more of an art than a skill that can be quantified. The Social Media Adept easily moves between social networks with humor and openness to what others have to say. A Social Media Adept is more a practitioner of Zen than a practitioner of logic.

Enroll at Hogwarts: An online wizarding school with real class

Enroll at Hogwarts: An online wizarding school with real class | Small Business Web Engagement | Scoop.it
Your Hogwarts dreams are about to be realized via an online wizarding education built by "Harry Potter" superfans.
craig daniels's insight:

There isn't a small business that I know of where the avenue isn't open to re-purpose something previously done as a marketing campaign.

The Harry Potter franchise has just launched an online version of Hogwarts. From imagination to books to movies to theme park and now an online version complete with classes and houses such as the famous Gryffindor. This is a great example of chain linking an idea to its next logical ideation.

How do you a small business owner go about chain linking your ideas? The first step is creating a mindmap showing what your business is about and what it's done. The 2nd step is to think about how the mindmap info can be used in video, audio, text, slides or images and placed on your website or social networks...

Advertising Gets Retro With Artisanal Advertising

Advertising Gets Retro With Artisanal Advertising | Small Business Web Engagement | Scoop.it
In a nondescript laboratory, a stodgy scientist in a white coat fills a beaker with orange liquid. At the same time, a second beaker sitting untouched on a lab table fills up with an identical liquid—as if by magic. This alchemical ad for Google Play’s instant data syncing must be computer-generated trickery, right? Wrong.
craig daniels's insight:

The Ebb and Flow of Old is New recently emerged in customer service (again) and now it appears that advertising has jumped on the bandwagon by embracing Artisanal Advertising.

It all makes sense and if you take a peak at some of the data coming out recently you'll see "research from The Futures Company revealing that more than 80 percent of Americans believe that society is too dependent on technology and that companies have grown inhuman and impersonal."

It's always smart for Small Business to remember that their customers are flesh and blood and appealing to the human in their customer service and advertising always is a winning strategy.
